Shocking Edison: News

November, 2008 - November 4, 2008

Hi all! We'd like to report that music from our first album, Scientific Curiosity, is still getting substantial radio play, and many songs are making the rounds on various PodCasts! Members of Shocking Edison are currently doing other projects. Fans should check out some of the new songs by Nicole Herbst's band, Gamble Mansion, and Louis Poulin's band, Ocean Roads. Of course, we always support Louis' other project, Lost Dog. The Dog has gone more metal, so for those of you who like the harder stuff, check 'em out! It also features the twisted stylings of the other Louis': Louis Strianese, Sr. and Louis Strianese, Jr. And don't forget Derek Bess, guitarist extraordinaire! Jay Herbst is still involved with the fan-driven legendary band, Little Feat, so check out the Feat's new album, "Join the Band!"

Thanks to Dr. Bob at JogTunesIndie Podcast! - November 28, 2007

Shocking Edison wants to give a tip of the hat to Dr. Bob and his JogTunesIndie Podcast. His Podcast is designed for runners, and he sorts songs by tempo and beats-per-minute. It's the ultimate Podshow for all of you joggers out there! Several Shocking Edison songs have been featured including "Time", played on the anniversary show. So check out the podcast and give a shout out to Dr. Bob! http://jogtunesindie.com/

Summer is over, but the fun is just beginning! - September 27, 2007

Hey Shockers! Our Summer hiatus is over, and the band has new music and new excitement planned for the Fall season. Frank is back in Naples, Nicole is in St. Pete, and Jay and Juice are still stuck in Fort Myers. At least everyone is within a reasonable radius to get enough rehearsals in.

The first CD, Scientific Curiosity, is still being played on radio across the country, and more Podcasts are picking it up all the time. We love new technology! Amazon sold out but now have more in stock, and of course, songs are always available for download on iTunes.

Watch this space for more updates, and come see a live show too!

Mid February Update - February 13, 2007

Hello all!

So much is happening in the space of a few days I thought I would update you in between monthly bulletins. First, as of today all of the songs on Shocking Edison’s, “Scientific Curiosity,” have been played on the radio, 16 in all. In addition, we are now, “On the charts,” at number 174. The top 200 hundred bands played on the radio are tracked. We debuted at a little over the 200 mark, and each week have been progressing upward. Pretty cool!

We have now been featured on three independent podcasts. If you haven’t yet listened to the show on http://www.eclecticmix.com/, it’s really fun.

Finally, the list of radio stations nationwide that are playing Scientific Curiosity is growing daily. The current list is as follows:

New material is underway, and I’m really encouraged by the focus and dedication the band is placing on writing new music and playing well. For those of you who can make it, Shocking Edison is a featured band at this year’s, “Hibiscus Festival, an annual celebration in Punta Gorda. We will be playing sometime the evening of Friday, June 15th. It is an outdoor show, right on the water in a local park (the name escapes me at the moment). Save the date, and I will send an alert with the details as the date draws near.

That’s it for now. Thanks for your continuing interest (feigned or otherwise!)

January Newsletter - January 24, 2007

Dear Friends and Family,

Well, the new year has just started, and January is already drawing to a close. Once again, many exciting and newsworthy things have happened to the band, which I will highlight below.

Radio Stations Playing Shocking Edison:

These are the current cities playing our music. New stations are adding our music on a weekly basis, so as I send this, it is already out-of-date. If you're living or traveling in these cities, be sure to look up the Adult Album Alternative, or triple-A, station in that city to listen in.

Based on the number of times our songs have been played, we would have been on the charts already, except for the fact that no one song is being played. Rather, each radio station is playing what they think would most appeal to their audience. As a result, both the softer and harder sides of the album are being played. Thus, we're not on the charts -yet- but listeners are getting to hear the wide variety of genres that is Shocking Edison.
(ed note: Shocking Edsion has just entered the FMQB top 200 album chart at number 195)

An Evening at the Opera:

For those of you who are opera fans, you may know that the Metropolitan Opera House is simulcasting select performances this season to various theaters across the country and beyond. This means you can visit a select theatre in your city and see a, "live," Met performance. A friend of mine (you know who you are!) just happens to work for the company responsible for capturing those performances and establishing the signal feed to the various network of participating theaters. It just so happens that, in order to test the audio feed for the performance of Mozart's, "The Magic Flute," my friend played Scientific Curiosity over the lines. Thus, as opera-goers were gathering at the theatres and taking their seats, they were treated to nearly the full CD. Though not exactly our target audience, we certainly thank those involved. So far, nobody's complained! As a result, Scientific Curiosity was played all throughout the country, Europe, and the Orient.

The Shocking Edison Show:

Well, this is the week. Shocking Edison is the featured band of the week on the internet music show, "Eclectic Mix." Be sure to visit www.eclecticmix.com to either listen to the show there or subscribe to the podcasts of the site. The show is 30 minutes long. The host, George Smythe, narrates about the band, our respective musical backgrounds, and, of course, the music. Five songs are featured. Smythe is well known to industry-insiders, so the exposure for the band is significant. Our many thanks to George and Eclectic Mix for including us in his program.

Shocking Edison Plays Birthday Parties?

Well, only for really special people, like Mark Herbst, amongst our biggest fans and our guitarist's brother. Mark turned #@%*& this month, and to celebrate, his wife planned a not-so-secret party. The big surprise was that Shocking Edison played to an enthusiastic crowd of about 40 friends and family. And if that weren't enough, the band wrote a song for Mark, based upon a poem Mark had written about his brotherhood with Jay. Touching, for sure. But once the tears were wiped away, it was nothing other than loud, raucous rock and roll, with a beautiful sunset and a water-side view of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge thrown in for good measure. Happy Birthday, Mark!

Well, for those of you who haven't yet bought the album (you know who you are...hee hee), it remains available at www.Itunes.com, www.CDBaby.com, www.Amazon.com, and of course, www.ShockingEdison.com, the band's website. We appreciate all of your support and interest, and wish you and yours a rockin' 2007.

Good Listening,

Frank

Our Music is Podsafe! - January 13, 2007

Our music is now registered with the Podsafe Music Network, so it's ready for podcasters interested in including it on their shows.

December Bulletin - December 11, 2006

Dear Friends and Family,

Well, the month of November was again an exciting month for Shocking Edison. Each of us in the band continues to be amazed at how well the album is doing.

You may recall from last month’s bulletin that the premier internet streaming radio site RadioIO (www.radioio.com) started playing our songs, “Couldn’t Be Better,” and “By Your Eyes,” on their Pop music channel. RadioIo enjoys over one million listeners, and plays hundreds of songs per day. During and shortly after a song is played, the listeners get to rate that song. I’m proud to announce that “By Your Eyes” ranked as the 15th most popular song played!

If you haven’t discovered this new form of entertainment already, podcasts are among the waves of the future. What is a podcast? It is a webcast of a particular music or voice program, usually at a designated time, to a user’s computer, then ultimately to their Ipod/MP3 player. Subscribers (most sites are free) receive the webcast in their Itunes or other music management software on their computer. Then, in the normal course of updating their Ipod/MP3 player with their computer, they’re given the option of downloading the content of the podcast to the Ipod/MP3 player for portable listening. Thus, fans of talk radio programs can listen at their convenience to their favorite pundits, and of course, music fans have access to all sorts of independent and alternative music they may not have discovered through traditional methods.

Well, now that you know what a podcast is, Shocking Edison has been selected for a podcast in January by a very well known podcaster who’s site is www.eclecticmix.com. The particular week in January remains to be announced. www.eclecticmix.com is well known to be watched by music industry insiders for up-and-coming bands. As the site only features one band per week, the selection process is quite competitive, so it is a coup for us to be featured. http://www.eclecticmix.com

As many of you know, “Scientific Curiosity,” is mostly original music. However, we covered two songs, an old Arlo Guthrie tune called “Coming Into Los Angeles,” and a Mad Caddies song called “Last Breath.” The Mad Caddies are among our lead singer Nicole’s favorite bands. They were in town recently and were so enamored with our version of their song, they invited Nicole to join them onstage to perform it. It was a captivating performance, at the Social in downtown Orlando.

Finally, three professional radio professionals have signed on with Shocking Edison to promote the album. They are in Los Angeles, Michigan, and New York, respectively. These people carefully screen the projects they get involved with and choose only those bands they believe they can get on the radio, ultimately to sell albums. They have decided that the main push to get Shocking Edison on broadcast radio will begin January 1, 2007, the reason being that the type of radio station we are marketing towards, the “Adult triple-A” stations, play holiday music about 25% of the time. Thus, rather than compete with Santa, we will wait until he is back at the North Pole. One promoter is beginning the hype now, however. For an example of band promotion in the 21st century, click on the following link:

Despite the wait until January, we are currently being played on broadcast radio in the following cities. If you happen to be there, tune in and listen for us.

Punta Gorda/Sarasota, FL
Annapolis, MD
Chicago, IL
Bethlehem, PA
Allentown, PA
Bangor, ME
Frisco, CO
Virginia Beach, VA
Lafayette, LA

It looks like our CD release party, which is primarily for family and friends, will occur on Saturday, January 27th, at a location to be announced, so save the date. We expect it to be in the greater Ft. Myers area. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Finally, remember Shocking Edison’s album, “Scientific Curiosity,” makes for a great stocking stuffer. It appeals to people of all ages. We have enthusiastic fans ranging in age from 15 to 50, so there’s almost something for everybody. It can be purchased at www.cdbaby.com, on our website, www.shockingedison.com, www.amazon.com, and soon at www.itunes.com.

Thank you for your continued interest in our project. Happy Holidays!

Shocking Edison

Latest Update - November 23, 2006

Dear Friends and Fans,

It has been a busy and productive few months for Shocking Edison. First, our CD, "Scientific Curiosity," has been released and is on sale. It can be purchased from CDBaby right here through our web site. Just go to the "Buy Gear" page to purchase it. Keep it in mind as a holiday stocking stuffer.

The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

With regard to traditional broadcast radio, the band put together a
"wishlist" of potential radio promoters with whom we hoped to work; industry giants, who have promoted many famous artists. Three of them are now on board and are promoting our CD!

Industry analysts at Billboard magazine told our guitarist and manager, Jay Herbst, that they predict the CD will make the charts during the first quarter of 2007. We shall see.

More good news. Radioio, the nation's premier internet streaming radio website, picked up Shocking Edison's, "Couldn't be Better," single for rotation in their Pop Music webcast. A week later, they also picked up "By Your Eyes." The songs are now playing daily to over one million listeners. Other songs from the CD will be included on their other channels, depending on the style of the song, in the next few weeks. Go to the site, register, and enjoy free internet radio of all different types. The site is www.radioio.com.

"Couldn't Be Better," is also being broadcast on Pop stations in
Punta Gorda/Pt. Charlotte, FL, Allantown, PA, Annapolis, MD, and Nashville, TN. Some bands live and die in Nashville and never get that opportunity. We are thrilled!

Finally, the much awaited CD release party is scheduled for January 27th. As the details develop, we will let you all know about it.

Thanks for all your support, and don't forget to spread the word to
all your friends!

Yours in music,
Shocking Edison

This is not one of a thousand other bands.
Shocking Edison manages to weave a variety of influences into a catchy post-grunge pop experience. A unique dichotomy between the female and male vocals highlights the fun and theatrical nature of the group.
This music will make you feel good.
We can all use a little of that.
